Dinwiddie High School JROTC Participates in Junior Cadet Leadership Camp

The Dinwiddie High School JROTC participated in the Junior Cadet Leadership Camp (JCLC) at Fort A.P. Hill from 23-28 June 2019. There were 17 cadets that participated from Dinwiddie out of 368 cadets from across Virginia and North Carolina. Cadets were fully engaged in activities such as rappelling, obstacle courses, orienteering, drill and ceremonies, and various other team building events. The intent i  s to challenge cadets in an austere environment and develop their leadership, communication, and social skills.

All the cadets that represented the Dinwiddie General Battalion excelled when placed in various leadership positions.  Special recognition went out to Chyla Johnson, Braddyn Portch and Janelle Brown.

Chyla Johnson, a rising junior, was assigned to Delta Company and was chosen as one of the Honor Cadets of her company. She served as the company Platoon Leader, where her leadership, communication, and ability to motivate others were recognized.

Braddyn Portch, a rising sophomore, was assigned to Bravo Company where he served as a Platoon Leader, Platoon Sergeant, and First Sergeant was also selected as Honor Cadet. Cadet Portch demonstrated outstanding leadership skills, communication, and physical fitness.

Janelle Brown is a rising junior who was also selected as Honor Cadet for Bravo Company. She demonstrated outstanding leadership skills and motivation while serving twice as the Company Commander.

All 17 cadets that represented Dinwiddie excelled in positions of leadership, team players and have grown as students and leaders where we can expect great leadership from them in the upcoming school year.
